Symphony Orchestra
The University of Manchester Symphony Orchestra is the flagship ensemble of the Music Society. Tackling challenging works, the orchestra performs seven times a year; five times in its own concerts and two times a year when performing with the 300-strong University Chorus. With regular international tours, most recently to Germany and the Czech Republic in July 2011, world premieres and sell-out concerts of old classics, the Symphony Orchestra never dissapoints.
Most recently, the orchestra has performed Elgar's 'In The South', Mahler's Fifth Symphony, Britten's Piano Concerto, Copland's Third Symphony and the Greater Manchester Premiere of Adam's Harmonium with the University Chorus.
The Symphony Orchestra is a dynamic ensemble in the Music Society. Personnel for each work in each concert is chosen based on the general auditions held in September and January. Rehearsals are normally on Mondays and Wednesdays, but these are subject to change per week. For more information, contact secretary@mumusicsociety.co.uk.
